From the DP's Perspective

Director of Photography

Florida interiors — restaurants, hotels, residential, boutique retail — almost always have a mix of warm practical sources that camera reads as amber if you try to daylight-balance everything. The 120t is the tool that lets you meet those practicals where they are. At 3000K it's a near-perfect match for tungsten and incandescent sources. I'll often use it as a motivated fill bounced off a white wall or ceiling, so it reads as the practical ambient in the room. Against a 600d or 300d daylight key, it adds depth and warmth to the shadow side of talent without looking like a correction — it looks intentional.

Gaffer

The value of the 120t on Treasure Coast shoots is that so many of our interior locations — beachfront hotels, Indian River waterfront restaurants, older residential properties — still have tungsten or warm LED practical sources throughout. Rather than spending an hour gelling out every practical lamp in the room, I bring in the 120t as a motivated fill and let the warm ambient work with us instead of against us. It's the same form factor as the 120d, so C-stand rigging is identical — no learning curve for the grip team.

Key Grip / Beginner

The 120t rigs identically to the 120d II — same weight, same Bowens mount, same control box. The only difference is the color of light it produces. If you're new to lighting, this is a good time to learn why color temperature matters: hold up a white card under the 120t, then under a daylight LED, and watch how differently the camera reads them. When mixing with daylight sources on set, the gaffer will tell you where to position the 120t and at what output level — trust that direction, and flag any placement that might spill onto areas the DP doesn't want warm.

Best For

Florida interior shoots with warm practical sources · Motivated fill from table lamps and sconces · Tungsten-look creative lighting for moody interview setups · Restaurant, hotel lobby, and residential interior shoots · Mixed-lighting scenes where warm-side depth is needed · Matching existing tungsten practicals without extensive gelling

Weather & Outdoor Use

⚠️

Not weather-rated — interior fixture. The 120t is designed for interior use. On the rare occasion you'd deploy a tungsten-balanced source outdoors (matching a sunset or warm artificial exterior), tent or protect it from any precipitation. Florida humidity is not a concern for the lamp itself; direct water is.
