From the DP's Perspective

Director of Photography

The EU7000is solves the location power problem cleanly. Its inverter output is true sine wave — no flicker, no interference with LED drivers or camera electronics, no noise in the audio. At 52 dB at quarter load, it disappears under ambient noise on most exterior locations. I've run it within 30 feet of a live dialogue scene on a quiet beach location and it didn't show up on boom. The Eco-Throttle mode drops the RPM automatically under light load, which is when it gets genuinely quiet. The 7,000W max means our full lighting package — 600d, 300d, three smaller fixtures, monitors, a laptop — runs comfortably with capacity to spare.

Gaffer

This is the generator I trust for any Florida location shoot where we're not on building power. The 5,500W continuous rating handles everything in our 2-ton package simultaneously, and the 7,000W surge capacity means we can start the whole package without load-shedding. The C7 distro box in our package splits the output into multiple circuits — one for lighting, one for support gear — so even if something trips, we don't lose the full rig. I position the EU7000is at least 20 feet from the set, run our 100ft stingers, and the noise profile is never an issue. On multi-day shoots, plan one full tank per shooting day to be safe.

Key Grip / Beginner

The generator is critical infrastructure on location — treat it that way. Position it on flat, stable ground with at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides for ventilation. Never run it indoors or in a partially enclosed space — the CO-MINDER will shut it down and you'll lose power mid-setup. Keep the area around it clear of cables and foot traffic. When connecting the distro box, the gaffer will walk you through the load order — typically you power up the distro first, then bring fixtures online one at a time rather than all at once. If the generator shuts down unexpectedly, look at the oil level and CO sensor before anything else.

Best For

Beach and coastal exterior shoots · Parks, preserves, and outdoor locations without power · Outdoor commercial and branded content production · Any setup requiring clean power for sensitive LED or audio gear · Multi-fixture packages where building circuits would be overloaded · Shoots needing 120V/240V output flexibility

Outdoor & Weather Use

Designed for outdoor use. The EU7000is is a purpose-built location generator. It handles Florida's heat and humidity without issue. Keep the air intake and exhaust clear of obstructions, and position it on flat ground away from standing water. In rain, a generator tent or canopy is recommended to protect the control panel and outlets — the engine itself is weather-hardened but the electronics prefer to stay dry.
