C-Stand Package

18 C-stands is the right number for a single-camera commercial day. You need stands for every fixture, every flag, every bounce card, and every sandbag position. Running out of stands mid-setup is one of the fastest ways to slow down a shooting day. With 18 in the package you have infrastructure to support the full lighting rig plus grip tools — negative fill, bounce, flags on the key side and fill side — without borrowing or improvising.

The mix of senior and junior arms in our package gives the grip team the right tool for each situation. Senior arms handle heavy loads — large flags, 4x4 frames, fixtures — while junior arms are for lighter positions where a smaller profile matters. 40" combo risers get fixtures high enough for overhead positions; 20" risers are quick to set for low-angle bounce cards or ground-level negative fill. I always keep at least two C-stands "open" during a shoot for impromptu fixes — something always needs a sandbag or an apple box weighted down.

The most important thing to know about C-stands: the load-side leg always points toward the load. If the arm extends to the left, the long leg of the base points left. Sandbag the base leg closest to the load — not the leg farthest away. Fully tighten the riser collars before loading any weight. On exterior shoots in Florida, wind is a real hazard — sandbag every stand, even ones that seem stable. A 40" arm extended with a flag can catch enough breeze to tip a stand in a coastal location.
