A dolly move communicates story in a way that no stabilizer move can — it's mechanically clean, repeatable, and reads as intention on screen. I use the Dana Dolly on any commercial or branded content shoot where I have at least two setups that benefit from camera movement: a product reveal push-in, a slow pull-back behind talent in a scene, a side-travel tracking shot following a subject. The Dana Dolly system is lightweight enough that it sets up in under 10 minutes and can run on improvised pipe track or dedicated rail — versatile for the varied locations on the Treasure Coast.
From a lighting standpoint, dolly moves mean you need to think about the light consistency across the full move. A fixture that's perfect at the start position may go soft or hard partway through the travel. I walk the dolly move before locking the lighting to check for hot spots, spill, or C-stand edges entering frame. Practical sources and practicals in the background need to be positioned so they stay aesthetically consistent across the move. On the Treasure Coast, dolly moves on beach exteriors require careful track leveling — sand compacts but shifts. Give the grip team extra time to level the track properly.
Your job with the dolly is to make the move smooth and repeatable. Before the first take, walk the move at shoot speed at least three times. Feel for any roughness in the wheels — even minor sticking ruins a take. Level the track with a bubble level at multiple points; don't assume the ground is level just because it looks flat. Practice the move with the camera operator and agree on a push speed before rolling. On exterior locations with wind, watch for anything that vibrates the track: a loose C-stand nearby, a flag arm that's not fully locked, or track legs that have shifted in sand or soft soil.

Outdoor & Weather Use
Outdoor-capable with leveling care. The Dana Dolly works on exterior surfaces but requires careful leveling — soft or sandy ground needs extra attention. Beach shoots: compact the sand before placing track legs, and check level between takes. Wind doesn't affect the dolly itself, but vibration from nearby rigging can. If shooting on pavement, put grip tape under track legs to prevent sliding during the move.
