From the Set

DP / Director of Photography

The MōVI Pro is the smoothest handheld path from point A to B in the kit. In Majestic mode it's locked — fast pans and tilts controlled purely by the operator's wrist movement. In Ektar mode via the MōVI Controller, the camera floats independently of operator movement for a floating, cinematic look. Aimon mode lets you use it mounted to a vehicle with head-tracking for active shot compensation. Pair it with the Easyrig Minimax for long handheld takes without operator fatigue — the rig gets heavy after 20 minutes.

Gaffer

The MōVI Pro is primarily a grip and camera department item, but the gaffer's job is to make sure any attached on-camera light (SmallHD monitor, Teradek transmitter) is balanced and not throwing the gimbal into tare mode. Whenever a new accessory is added to the camera package that goes on the MōVI, the gimbal needs to be retared. Keep a small kit of counterweights available for fast balancing adjustments. The TB50 batteries run the gimbal for extended periods — charge all 6 the night before.

Key Grip / Beginner

The MōVI Pro requires balancing before use with every new camera configuration. Never power the gimbal on before balancing — unbalanced motors can burn out the motor drivers. Follow the balance procedure: balance front-to-back, then side-to-side, then tilt balance, then power on and run the tare procedure from the app. The Freefly MōVI Pro app (iOS/Android) walks you through the entire setup process. When in doubt, watch the MōVI Pro setup tutorial on YouTube before your shoot day, not during it.

Weather & Environment

⚠ Not Weather Rated

The MōVI Pro is sensitive electronic equipment. Do not use in rain or high humidity without adequate protection. Florida's afternoon weather events can be sudden — have a weather cover ready and a plan to get the rig undercover quickly. Electronics, motors, and encoders can be damaged by moisture.
